ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
 
Easter Holidays:
Good Friday - April 3rd and Monday April 6th

McWane Science Center Field Trip - Tuesday April 7th:
We are looking forward to this exciting field trip. Please note that this field trip is scheduled Tuesday following the long Easter Holiday weekend, All those attending the field trip must be at the school and ready to leave at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday morning. You may bring your breakfast with you to eat on the bus. Please check in with your student's homeroom teacher when you arrive and prior to boarding the bus.
Once we arrive at the McWane Center, the two 5th grades will combine to form one group and the two 6th grades will combine to form another group for the tour of the museum.

Itinerary:

5:45 a.m. - Arrive at school - Check in with homeroom teacher

6:15 a.m. - Depart for Birmingham

9:00 a.m. - Arrive at McWane Science Center - Form 5th and 6th Grade Groups and Chaperone/Student Teams

Museum Layout:
Lower Level - Shark and Ray Touch Tank and Aquarium
Level 1 - Science Quest and Bubble Room - I-Max, Café and Gift Shop
Level 2 - Sea Monsters and Alabama Dinosaurs
Level 3 - Art/Tech and Traveling Exhibit

5th Grade Tour:
9:00 - 9:45 a.m. - Lower Level
9:45 - 10:30 a.m. - Level 3
10:30 - 11:00 a.m. - Begin Level 1
11:00 - 11:45 a.m. - Lunch - Level 1 Cafe
11:45 - 12:15 a.m. - Complete Level 1 and Gift Shop

Money for this field trip is due by March 20th.


6th Grade Graduation:
Each parent should have received a letter regarding our 6th grade graduation. Although graduation is not until May 21st, we are busy preparing for this exciting event. A letter was sent out asking for specific information. This information needs to be returned by April 10th. Money ($42) for your student's cap and gown is due Thursday April 2nd.
 
Parents:
Since there are so many events going on right now, please send a note stating the purpose with any money you send to school.
 
Early Dismissal for Prom:
Friday April 10th - School will be dismissed early (11:50 a.m.) for prom.

Reading:
 
The Cay: Chapters 14-19. Vocabulary sentences due Thursday Apr. 9th. Vocabulary and story test Thursday Apr. 9th.
 
AR: Students will receive their new goals this week. Please encourage students to get an early start toward reaching their goal.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

SAT TEST - March 16th-19th:
Students should be finished with testing by 12:30 p.m. each day. Please schedule any appointments after this time.


Tips to help your child do their best on SAT:
Bring two (2) #2 Pencils with good erasers each day.
Get a good night's rest each night.
Eat a good breakfast each morning.
Get to school on time.
Encourage them to have a good attitude and try to do their best.
 
Honors Day Program - 3rd Nine Weeks:
Date: Friday March 20th
Time: 9:00 a.m.
Place: Cafetorium
Please plan to attend.

Spring Break - March 23rd-27th

Because the 6th grade classes are much larger than the 5th grade classes it will be necessary to pair a 5th grade homeroom with a 6th grade homeroom on each bus in order to have sufficient space. One bus will have 5A, Mrs. Ferraro's homeroom along with 6B, Mrs. Powell's homeroom. The other bus will have 5B, Mrs. Rotton's homeroom along with 6A, Mrs. Sanders' homeroom. Once we arrive at the McWane Center, the two 5th grades will combine to form one group and the two 6th grades will combine to form another group for the tour of the museum. The itinerary along with more details will be provided later.

Jonah McWaters' Baseball Tournament March 13th-15th:
School will be dismissed early Friday March 13th, 11:50 a.m., due to this tournament.

SAT TEST - March 16th-19th:

A $10 deposit was due this past Friday February 20th, for those that plan to attend this field trip. Also, any parent that would like to be a chaperone should let Ms. Ferraro know.

Read Across America Week March 2nd - 6th:
This week is "Read Across America" Week.  6th  graders do not actually participate in the reading activities that are set up but are welcome to dress for the themed days if they want to.
Monday - dress as your favorite Dr. Seuss character
Tuesday - Foxiest socks day (wear silly socks)
Wednesday - Wacky Wednesday (wear wacky, tacky clothing)
Thursday - Grinchiest green day - (may wear green but no camouflage)
Friday - Red and white day
Poster Contest - Your child is encouraged to participate in a poster contest in honor of Dr. Seuss. They may design a poster to represent their favorite Dr. Seuss book. Make sure your child puts the title of the book on the poster and includes their name on the BACK of the poster.
