  ANNOUNCEMENTS
 
 
CHOCOLATE BAR FUNDRAISER:
There are still some remaining unpurchased chocolate bars.
 
 
Children's Hospital Christmas Gift Project: We will be collecting Christmas gift items for the children and Children's Hospital. A flyer with the details regarding this project was sent home with your child before the Thanksgiving Holidays. The date to have the gift items turned in is Wednesday Dec. 10th.
 
Christmas Ornaments: The deadline for purchasing these ornaments is Wednesday Dec. 10th. The ornaments cost $10. Please send your money in as soon as possible.

PTO Christmas Store: The PTO Store will open in the Cafetorium on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 11th and 12th. This will benefit the PTO and give your child a great opportunity to purchase some gifts. They will also wrap the gifts for them, no charge.

Christmas Meal: The meal will be on Tuesday, Dec. 16th at 12:15. Parents are invited to come to school and enjoy a Christmas meal with your child. The forms with the prices and menu were sent home with your child today, Monday December 8th. Please complete the form and return it by Friday, December 12th. We hope you can come and join us!
 
Spirit Card Sales Winner: Our homeroom has won the prize for selling the most Spirit Cards. Our prize is a pizza party which will be Friday, Dec. 12th. All food and drinks are furnished, there will be no need to provide anything for lunch on this day.
 
6A Homeroom Class Christmas Party:
The date for the party is Wednesday Dec. 17th at 8:00 a.m.
 
All students will need to bring a $10 gift card for exchange. Boys should bring a card appropriate for a boy and girls a card appropriate for a girl. The gift cards should be gift wrapped or placed in a gift bag (We will probably play "Dirty Santa").
 
Refreshments: We will have breakfast foods, sweets, and chips dip. Please let me know what items you will be able to provide as soon as possible. You can contact me by email (bsanders@pikelib.com) or send a note with your child. The following items have already been selected: Fruit tray, brownies, and donut holes.
 
Early Dismissal: We will dismiss early (11:50 a.m.) on Thursday and Friday Dec. 18th and 19th.
 
Christmas Vacation: Friday Dec. 19th (at 11:50a.m.) until Friday Jan. 2nd. We will return to school at the normal time on Monday Jan. 5th. We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Patriot Marketplace: 
Dec. 4-5 The 6th grade is collecting kitchen items to fill our basket for the silent auction. The time to turn in your items has been extended to Tuesday Dec. 2nd.
 
Please also support this event by coming and shopping. Their many great Christmas gift items for sale.
 
The school band, the cheerleaders, and dance groups will be preforming during this event. You can enjoy this wonder entertainment while you shop.

Operation Christmas Child: Since there was money left over from the 6th Grades' Homecoming Float and there was so little time to complete this project, we decided to use a portion of these leftover funds for our 6th grade classes boxes for this event.
 
Thanksgiving Lunch: Thursday Nov. 20th. If you are planning to eat with your child, please return the form and money by Tuesday Nov. 18th.

SPECIAL VETERAN'S DAY BREAKFAST: Friday, Nov. 7th - There will be a special breakfast in the library to honor our veterans beginning at 8:45 a.m. and lasting until 9:25 a.m., due to limited food and space, only veterans are invited to this breakfast.
But we do want to honor as many of those veterans that are in your family or are your friends as possible. So, please let us know how many veterans you would like for us to provide you invitations for and we will send the invitations home with your child.
 
Veteran's Day Program Friday, Nov. 7th :  The Veteran's Day Program will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Cafetorium. The 5th and 6th Grade classes are responsible for this program. Please help your child learn their part. Dress for the program will be: girls - red, white, or blue Sunday dress, boys - red, white, or blue collared shirts with khaki pants. 5th and 6th Grade parents are invited to attend. Students may leave with their parents following the program. Attendance will not be counted against students perfect attendance.

CHOCOLATE BAR FUNDRAISER: I would first like to say thank you to all of those who have committed to selling a case of chocolate bars. However, this fundraiser has fallen short of our goal. So to encourage more participation, the 5th and 6th grade classes have decided to "take orders". Each homeroom will order the additional cases. If you would be willing to sell some individual $1 candy bars, or buy some for your family, PLEASE let me know how many and which kind. I need to know as soon as possible so that I can get them ordered. You can email me at bsanders@pikelib.com or send a note with your child. Thanks for all you do!

6th Grade Float: Theme - Fire Up the Falcons, There is still a lot of work to do, but our students and parent volunteers are working hard to finish our float on time. Some have not sent in the $5 for the float yet. Please send in your money as soon as possible.
 
Homecoming Parade Thursday Oct. 30th - 6:00 p.m.: Parade units will be lined up along the street behind the hospital. A single lane must be left open at all times for emergency vehicle passage on this street. The parade route will begin in front of the school and circle around to the back of the school and will end behind the lunchroom. All visitors to the school for the parade will need to parked by 5:45 p.m. The parade will begin at 6:00 p.m.
 
Booster Club BBQ Sandwich Sale Thursday Oct. 30th: After the Homecoming Parade Thursday, the Booster Club will be selling BBQ Sandwich Meals - One sandwich, chips, and a canned drink for $5.00 or Two sandwiches, chips, and a canned drink for $7.00. Families can enjoy their meals in the lunchroom following the parade. Meals will be pre-ordered. A form to purchase the meals will be sent home with your child Tuesday Oct. 28th. If you want a meal(s), please complete the form and return with the money by Wednesday Oct. 29th. Tickets for the meals purchased will be issued. A bonfire and pep rally will follow the meal.
 
Homecoming Pep Rally Thursday Night Oct. 30th: The "blackout" pep rally will be begin at 7:00 p.m. in the gym and there will be an admission charge of $1. Other information and special instructions for this event are being sent home with your child Tuesday Oct. 28th.
 

PLAS Spirit Day at Hardee's Friday Oct. 31st: Troy Hardee's (only) is donating 20% of their pre-taxed sales on Friday Oct. 31st, from 4:00 a.m. till 11:00 p.m., when customers use a special coupon(s). These coupons will be sent home with your child Tuesday Oct. 28th along with instructions as to how to use them.

PLAS Red Ribbon Week - October 20th - 24th: Due to homecoming festivities the last week of October, we will hold next week as our Red Ribbon Week at PLAS. Each day's theme is listed below.
 
Monday, Oct. 20th - I'm Too Bright for Drugs! (wear neon or bright colored clothing)
 
Tuesday, Oct. 21st - Red Ribbon Day (wear red, ribbons will be provided as well)
 
Wednesday, Oct. 22nd - Sock it To Drugs! (wear red, crazy, or mismatched socks)
 
Thursday, Oct. 23rd - Happy, Happy, Happy to be Drug Free! (wear camouflage)
 
Friday, Oct. 24th - "Team Up" Against Drugs! (show your Patriot Pride - wear PLAS shirt)
 
URGENT NEED!!! Thursday, October 23rd: Fall Festival - 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Cafetorium. The 5th and 6th Grades will be responsible for the "Country Store". We will need parents to work at our "Country Store" in 30 minute intervals: 6:00 to 6:30, 6:30 to 7:00, 7:00 to 7:30, 7:30 to 8:00. We will need 4 parents for each interval, one from each homeroom. We will also need you to provide items for sale in the "Country Store": arts and crafts, baked goods, novelties. etc. Please mark your items with a "sale price". Your help will be critical to making this success. BECAUSE THIS IS EVENT IS THIS THURSDAY, I REALLY NEED TO FINALIZE WHO IS WORKING AND WHAT ITEMS ARE BEING BROUGHT FOR THE COUNTRY STORE, PLEASE GET THIS INFOMATION TO ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

I hope everyone had a great fall break! We have some special events coming soon, here are just a couple that you need to be sure to remember.
 
Honors Assembly:
 
October 17th - Friday - Honors Assembly for the First Nine Weeks.
The program will begin at 8:30 in the Cafetorium.  Students making A and A/B Honor Roll and those meeting their AR goal will be recognized.
 
 
Homecoming:
 
October 31st - Friday is Homecoming. 
The theme for Homecoming week is "Nightmare on Kervin Drive".
 
Dress for the week is as follows:

Tuesday- Decade Day
Wednesday- Halloween Costumes
Thursday- T-Shirt Day
Friday- red/white/blue for elementary grades

CHOCOLATE BAR FUNDRAISER: I would first like to say thank you to all of those who have committed to selling a case of chocolate bars. However, this fundraiser has fallen short of our goal. So to encourage more participation, the 5th and 6th grade classes have decided to "take orders". Each homeroom will order the additional cases. If you would be willing to sell some individual $1 candy bars, or buy some for your family, PLEASE let me know how many and which kind. I need to know as soon as possible so that I can get them ordered. You can email me at bsanders@pikelib.com or send a note with your child. Thanks for all you do!

October 13th-15th (Monday through Wednesday Only): Fall Break - no school.
 
Thursday, October 23rd: Fall Festival - 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Cafetorium. The 5th and 6th Grades will be responsible for the "Country Store". We will need parents to work at our "Country Store" in 30 minute intervals: 6:00 to 6:30, 6:30 to 7:00, 7:00 to 7:30, 7:30 to 8:00. We will need 4 parents for each interval, one from each homeroom. We will also need you to provide items for sale in the "Country Store": arts and crafts, baked goods, novelties. etc. Please mark your items with a "sale price". Your help will be critical to making this success.

September 19th - Grandparent's Day Program - K-4 through 4th Grade 10:00 a.m., 5th/6th Grade Program 11:00 a.m.  in the Cafetorium, The Book Fair will also be in the Library that day. Grandparents may wish to take their grandchildren to the Book Fair to shop and are free to check them out to spend time with them on the rest of this "Special Day". Grandchildren should be checked out with the homeroom teacher in Cafetorium following the program. Please encourage all grandparents to take part in this special event.
Student Dress for Grandparents Day:
Boys should wear khaki pants and red, white, or blue collared shirts.
Girls should wear red, white, or blue dresses, skirts, or pants and blouses.

There will be two additional forms, medical (optional) and emergency, that will be sent home today, Monday August 18th. These forms also need to be returned as soon as possible.

It really seemed like the summer has passed by very quickly, but I am excited about the beginning of another school year. I look forward to working with each of you to make this a very productive and successful year. I know most of you from the 5th grade last year and look forward to getting to know you and our new students even better.
